Six local parishes host Sunday lunch for low income families from the Rochester area. The meal is served at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Parishes rotate the hosting responsibilities so each parish serves once every six weeks. Volunteers prepare the meal, serve it to the guests, and share in fellowship with them. The time commitment is 3 to 4 hours each time. We also have volunteers who bake delicious desserts that are served to our guests.
Due to Covid-19, the Rochester parishes have been unable to serve Sunday Lunch in person at St Francis. However, volunteers prepare, package, and deliver 60 meals to The Landing, which is a day center and resource organization for people experiencing homelessness. In addition, 10-12 to-go meals are handed out to guests weekly at St. Francis.
The parishes are currently discussing options for 2023 which may include restarting in-person meals at Saint Francis versus serving at the new Landing facility.
